Unilorin 2014 Post UTME Form is out, See Screening-Instructions and Eligibility info

1. The University of Ilorin invites all candidates who have applied for admission into the University as First Choice either through UTME or Direct Entry, to visit the University of Ilorin website, www.unilorin.edu.ng, for details of the procedure for the Pre- Admission Screening Exercise. 2. Registration for the Pre-admission screening will commence on Sunday 13th July and end Wednesday 23rd July, 2014. 3. The Pre-admission Screening Exercise is scheduled to take place from Monday, 21st to Saturday 26th July, 2014 using Computer Based Test (CBT) platform at Ilorin and Lagos Centres. 4. The deadline for the online registration is 23rd July, 2014. However, candidates awaiting results but who have registered on or before 23rd July, 2014 have the opportunity to submit their results online on or before15th August, 2014 when the portal will be closed. 5.2013/2014 Remedial Students should await further instructions for their registrations. ELIGIBILITY Candidates must have: > Scored a minimum of 180 marks in the 2014 UTME for all courses except those for which higher cut off marks have been specified on the University website; > Made the University of Ilorin their first choice either at UTME or Direct Entry (DE) and; > Obtained Five (5) Credits in relevant ‘O ’ Level subjects, at not more than two sittings except in MB;BS where only one sitting is acceptable. Eligible candidates should visit the University website www.unilorin.edu.ng to complete their registration online. NECO Shocks Students With Upgraded Examination – Implement Paper Types

NECO used four Paper Types A, B,C and D to conduct the exam. Many students currently writing the Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (SSCE) of the National Examinations Commission (NECO) had to chew the cover of their pens today as the examination body surprised them with upgraded means of conducting the exams. One of the rescheduled subjects-Mathematics-was written today and those who wrote said they did not understand how the exam was conducted. One of such means was the use of Paper Type. This medium which must have been adopted from that of the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) was the one that hit students, especially the ones that wrote in “Miracle Centres” the hardest. A student of High Standard Comprehensive High School, In Delta State complained bitterly to me after their exams. “Na God go punish NECO.”, he cried. “When they brought the question papers, our maths teacher just collect one question paper go dey solve am for us inside him office. After like thirty minutes, the guy come inside hall. he dictate objective, all of us shade. Later dem come copy theory for board, all of us copy am take. Na about ten minutes make exam finish Na we come dey hear say one thing Na paper type. before we know d invigilator collect everything from us. The Paper Type wey d mumu Uncle write Na C and me I be type A”. Many students were found complaining, crying and some even rolling on the floor. Most of the ones crying were heard making d statement “NECO, Diaris God ooooooo”. This shows the reason for the rescheduling of three core subjects; mathematics, biology and economics.

Alma Jamachi Oputais Covenant University’s best graduating student for the 2013/2014 session. Alma who graduated with a CGPA of 4.99 from the department of Computer Science, tells Olafisoye Demilade, how she achieved the enviable feat and plans for future. Tell us about your background? I was born in Kaduna and grew up in Kaduna, Jos, Lagos and Owerri. I went to three primary schools, Command Day children school, Jos, Alama private School, Jos and Air force primary school, Victoria Island, Lagos. For my Secondary school, I attended Faith Academy, Ota, Ogun state. What informed your choice to study computer science? I studied computer science but it wasn’t my first choice initially. I have always wanted to study medicine since I was a little child. But things didn’t happen as planned and I couldn’t enter in for medicine at Unilag. Covenant University was my second choice and one of my secondary school teachers just picked computer science randomly for me. That was it. What motivated you throughout your University days? For starters, every semester was less stressful for me and that had to be God at work. Even when work got so cumbersome, I had wonderful friends and we would always tell each other we had to read, excel and do our best because we had goals. My friends were indeed the best! My lecturers were always there to answer any questions I had. I called my parents like everyday on campus and they never stopped encouraging me and telling me I was the best. I had every reason to do my best and come out the best. Who would you consider your mentors? My dad, Bishop David Oyedepo and Ben Carson. My dad has mentored my entire life. It was from my dad I got the mentality that no matter where I found myself, whether I wanted to be there or not, I had to be the best! He told me to prove to people that I was good enough for every aspect of life and I could only do that by being the best. Describe your typical day while in Covenant University? My typical day in CU varies based on the activities and plans I have lined up for that day. I wake up, pray, prepare for lectures and look at my to do list so I can plan how I would go about them and how I would use my free periods. After lectures, I go for any meetings and programs I have to attend and eat thereafter. I, then, study in the evenings and at night and I write my to do list for the next day. World Cup final attendance exceeds 1bn

The just-ended Brazil 2014 has proven to be a social, mobile FIFA World Cup as more than a billion fans were able to join in across FIFA’s official digital platforms. A statement from FIFA Media Office on Monday said attendance in the Global Stadium exceeded one billion users by the final whistle of the 2014 FIFA World Cup on Sunday. The competition’s final match saw Germany defeating Argentina by a lone goal after extra time following a goalless draw at regulation time. “The attendance means that FIFA’s digital live and social hub can fit the equivalent of 13,380 Maracanas inside. “FIFA’s Global Stadium has been the social, online and mobile hub for the 2014 World Cup matches. “At the global stadium, fans could follow the games live and engage with friends, worldwide fans, players, coaches and celebrities. “Football fans from every country in the world went through the virtual turnstiles to experience more than 40 billion impressions of official World Cup digital content.’’ According to the statement, FIFA’s mobile and social platforms contributed to the record-breaking crowds who engaged with the world soccer body’s digital platforms. “There were 107 million fans connecting to official website and application content on mobile devices. “The official FIFA application recently became the biggest sports event application of all time with a record 28 million downloads. “An impressive 451 million Facebook users were reached with official FIFA social content. “FIFA’s Twitter followers surpassed the 16-million mark, with an average of 10 new followers per second recorded on the opening match day. “The official FIFA World Cup Instagram application increased from 42,000 to 0.8 million followers in 31 days, a growth rate of over 1,600 per cent,’’ the statement said. It quoted FIFA President Sepp Blatter as saying that this has been the first truly mobile and social World Cup. “The official FIFA application became the biggest sports event application in the world and we have seen huge growth across our social accounts. “The one billion attendance in the Global Stadium created the sense of togetherness the World Cup brings and the shared excitement that digital platforms offer,’’ Blatter said.

Man Sues China Govt Over Museum Demolition

Shanghai - A Shanghai man is suing local authorities in China's commercial hub for almost $48m over the demolition of his home, which doubled as a private museum a court and reports said on Friday.

Liu Guangjia, whose house and a museum-style garden of bonsai trees and exotic rocks in the southwestern suburb of Anle were destroyed in April last year, is seeking $47.6m in compensation, the official Xinhua news agency reported.

The museum was free to visit for the public, it added.

It is rare for cases against the authorities to reach the courts in China, and state media said Liu's demand was the largest ever brought against a local government.

A district court heard that Liu and his wife Zhu Rongzhou, both in their 70s, were taken away and tied up for 30 hours during the demolition, the Global Times said.

"Zhu had just finished treatment for breast cancer and Liu's arm was dislocated in the struggle," it reported.

"When they were released, the house, museum and all the contents were all gone," it added.

In an online trial report, the court said objects taken away from the house and museum included dinosaur fossils, calligraphy, gold and jewellery.

Bandits 

Liu said the district authorities and a local property developer "forcefully and unlawfully" tore down the property and took away his collections, according to Xinhua.

The local Minhang government denies the accusations and says the demolition followed legal procedures.

Forced demolitions are common in China as local governments rely heavily on land sales for their incomes and investment projects to drive economic development.

Users of China's Twitter-like Sina Weibo micro-blogging service condemned the Minhang authorities.

"Forced requisition and demolition are no different from robbery and plunder of villains and bandits", Xie Zhiyong, a professor at Chinese University of political science and law, wrote on his verified Weibo.

"I hope to see an impartial verdict from the court," said another Weibo user.

The case was continuing on Friday, the Higher People's Court of Shanghai said on its microblog.
